Kitten Vaccination Schedule
The following vaccination schedule is appropriate for the vast majority of kittens and is highly recommended to insure the future health of your new pet. Nevertheless, the protocol can be adjusted based on your individual living, recreation, and breed-specific circumstances.
The schedule below will assume that you are brining your kitten to us at a minimum of 8 weeks-of-age and that no vaccinations have been given prior to your first visit with us. If your puppy is under 8 weeks-of-age or has already received previous vaccinations, please consult our staff while deciding how to adjust the treatment protocol.
The Veterinarians of the Animal Medical Clinic recommend the following vaccination protocol:
8 weeks –
12 weeks -
16 weeks -
Of course, you may bring your kitten in to our hospital or clinics prior to 8 weeks-of-age for wellness exams, behavioral consultations, and deworming. However, if the kitten is not yet 8 weeks, we will not begin the vaccination schedule during that visit.
We recommend starting the kitten with their first vaccinations at 8 weeks-of-age because this age is when the immunity they received from their mother is fading, thus leaving the kitten unprotected. Vaccines given prior to the maternal immunity wearing off (before 8 weeks) will do no good. Similarly, if we wait too long after the maternal immunity wears off, we are placing the kitten at risk for contracting a virus while their immunity is unprotected. Therefore, 8 weeks-of-age is the appropriate time to start vaccinating the majority of kittens.
